Powys Castle

Powys Castle, one mile south of Welshpool overlooking the Severn Valley, was the home of the Herbert family from the 16th century to the current day.

In 1784 Henrietta Herbert married Edward Clive linking the Powys and Clive estate.  Edward's father Robert Clive, the conqueror of India brought back collections of treasures from India, which is displayed in Powys Castle.

Powys Castle is renowned for its beautiful gardens and the design of the gardens was carried out in the early 20th century by Violet, the wife of the 4th Earl of Powys.
